Tina’s Poetry

AWAKEN

Keep reality at bay for a little while.
Finish the dream and hold it close
with a secret smile until it flutters away.
Reluctantly, your feet of clay step into morning.

INSIDIOUS

Sharp slivers of sound bites,
their meanings eat away at my core.
Breathless words shiver down my spine.
They shatter, softly hurting, forever.

THE WELL

Hopelessly I cling, incapable of flight,
falling by minutes and inches.
My vision is blurring as I am encircled by walls of time.
I slip soundlessly into the dark hour of decay.

BETRAYAL

Shed the layers, say the prayers!
Trudge through the thickened air.
Pierce the dark with hope born anew.
But, the embryo of what could have been still shrivels.

SPINNING

Attention scattered, senses battered,
Pieces held together by centrifugal force.
Bits of me fly through the barrier, free?
Rooted here, I remain, incomplete.

CLOSED

Minutes of waiting, days of immobility,
A lifetime wasted in regret and dread.
Mourning the past, fearing the future,
Each moment is missed…is missed…is missed.

EROSION

The constant pain is muted,
Hammering slowly, endlessly.
My spirit, like a rock turned to sand
Flows past life and washes out to sea.

DO IT!

Seize the day, they say;
Capture it, clutch it, conquer it!
Carpe Diem. Then what?
They don’t tell you that part.

CLICHED

The early bird, the squeaky wheel,
Obnoxious day jerks get it all.
While nice people of the night
(And the meek) shall inherit…nothing.

UNEVOLVED

Love thine enemy, turn the other cheek,
So noble, so angelic, so seldom!
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,
Hatred can fester and explode…so human.

HAPPY FACE

Have a nice day
Enjoy your lunch
I’ll do my best
But I make no guarantees

WELD

WeldCool, metallic fragments, unique;
Magnetized, but never meeting.
Then a tenuous hold, an almost-blending,
Threatened by want’s heat.

The segments are seared by their seeking,
Forcibly melted, merged and sealed
To form one piece dimming and cooling.
Not complete, or whole, but warm.

FROG AND COCKROACH

Tree FrogIts antennae flick like blind men’s sticks.
It scurries in a 6-legged moonwalk, leery of the light.
Oblivious to the motionless green mound with staring marble eyes.

Dressed in its own shiny black shroud, it moves mindlessly.
Toward a wide-mouthed fate.

WHITHER

I’m surely in a dither,
Pacing fro and to,
Just going yon and hither
What am I to do?

RELEASE

You know the hurt, nurture the anger, it grows.
Overwhelmed and rendered helpless, you surrender.
Better to feel it, extract its power and then let it go.
In that purity of strength comes exquisite revenge!

SNAP

Bound by rigid thoughts, black or white,
One take, no middle ground,
Believing it’s God’s will. So simple when preordained.
No strain to be unbending. Until you break.

AGES

Curvaceous, droopy, bent
Vivacious, steady, spent
Healthy, caring, pills
Striving, wealthy, wills

THE WAY

Alas and alack! You go forth and then back,
Just to keep on the narrow and straight.
So many ties bind you, your future can’t find you.

Your path is a death worse than fate.
Alack and alas you should run, silly ass
To the road that is wide and forever.

You’ll sever those strings and feel you have wings!
Real life!
Better late than never.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

I just runneth over my cup.
So this morning I guess I must sup.
Then tonight I will dine on breakfast at nine
And have dinner when I get up.

I’ll build all my castles in air
Using round plates and meals square.
And schemes will have I of pies in the sky
So no other dreams will compare.

The brunch in the night I won’t see
But by dawn’s early light, we’ll have tea
The breaking of bread brings clouds to my head
As I taste, all the visions fly free

TAILGATE

Space in front of you, then suddenly someone’s bumper.
He’s zipping from lane to lane to get ahead, get ahead!
Miles of “Type A Behavior” and he’s gained maybe a car length.
You will live longer as you continue to appreciate the ridiculous.

POLYMORPHITIS

For that elusive diagnosis, doctors will reach deeply
Into their imaginations before they will ever admit
They haven’t a clue
“I don’t know” is not in the vocabulary of the arrogant.

MOUTH DE MAL

Those who complain incessantly
Don’t have the will to help solve the problems.
That would intrude on their time to whine and judge.
Bitching takes so much effort.
Hypocrites are such busy people.

OCTOBER ROSE

October roseThe sun that is shrouded today
Strains to illuminate a red rose in the fog.
The wispy bonds of a spider web
Drop lightly on the fragile, faded leaves.

For a restless moment, the bloom unfolds,
Briefly unrestricted; It does not endure.
It was the last bit of color to pierce
The grey-green silence.

As the muffled sky darkens,
The last petal is ensnared and drops.
It portends the end of promise.
Until Spring brings hope anew.

MEASURE

Can you measure how far, how long, how deeply felt?
Can you ever return from that far away?
Come back and feel close for a little while.
That’s enough for now.

READY

Ready not to notice my sadness
Wanting to be found
Trying to fill the empty space by not being there
Between the tears
Hoping to keep safe from the pain
Hiding and waiting

SHELTER

My shelter is too smooth, too symmetrical.
My sharp edges are escaping, being exposed to the light that burns.
Was there ever a time when things fit together like the smooth, wet sand
After the ebb of the tide and before the footprints?

QUESTIONS

Every thought is a question without answer.
But, there is no time for that.
I must complete my disguise soon,
Or be one with the swirling darkness.

HEAVY

If I crouch in silence, can I be a rock,
Hard and still with no voice?
If I hold my breath, can I be an anchor,
Deeply buried in cold waters?

FLOW

You hold me in the hollow of your hand
But my need is water slipping through your fingers.
I retreat like the sucking in of a breath.
The stars are drowning and I try to flatten myself
And become so smooth that I won’t impede the flood.

THE POOL

Under the flat roof of sky,
Toss a pebble into the pool.
Your reflection breaks into pieces.
Are you always at the bottom looking up?
You don’t know who you are, do you?

THE HOLLOW

You have me in the hollow of your hand.
But my need is like water snaking through your fingers.
I retreat like sucking in a breath.

The stars are drowning.
I try to flatten myself and become so smooth that
I won’t impede the flood.

CATS

When you are worried or upset,
You pretend to be preoccupied by other matters.
Cats know how to do this too.
But, meanwhile the day starts before you do.
The pretense is over and..the day wins.
